There are many dog trainers who shun the word "No" when dealing with dogs. However, they will say "Yes" to a dog all day long. Why do you think that is? Here's a hint, it's not because the dog never does anything wrong. It is because they think the dog can't handle any negative response and will crumble with disappointment if you disapproved of their behavior.
Dog trainers with a balanced method give dogs way more credit than that! We will tell a dog "No" because we recognise a dog's intelligence and resilience. We know we can teach them to understand it and what it means, and they are not sensitive snowflakes that can't handle it. It's all about teaching, and if a dog can understand "Yes", then it can understand "No". To deprive them of that clear communication is not doing you or the dog any favors.
